At Surfing Servants, we believe in the incredible power of serving those in need. We love God, love Surfing, and wanted to combine these passions with our leadership skills as career public servants to make a difference in the world. So we set out to put all of these together to make Surfing Servants!
We’re not just a charity; we are a family committed to making a difference. Our founders envisioned a place where the waves bring not just fun but also hope, creating bonds and inspiring lives. From humble beginnings, our mission has grown, united by faith and the desire to spread the love of God through our work.
Our Story - Give Where You Go
Our journey began in 2022 on a surf trip to El Salvador with the realization that the local families that would cook for us at our surf camp would go back to their home and get sick drinking contaminated water or pay a months salary for filtered water. Through research we found that ?? of the world does not have access to clean water and that ?? kids under 5 die from contaminated water. That same research discovered a simple yet miraculous solution, Sawyer Water filters. Originally developed for backpackers, these filters attach to a bucket or a faucet and clean out all the bacteria that causes waterborne disease. Incredibly, A single filter lasts 10 years and costs only $35. The impact was immediately positive both in health and economics and today we deliver 100 filters a year to El Salvador. Over the years this idea has grown into an international movement and we have provided over 1000 clean water filters in 11 countries around the world.
Our Mission Expands! Give Where You Live
As the success of our international clean water program grew we felt pulled to give back locally as well. As kids, we were given the lifetime love of surfing by someone who taught us how to surf. Surfing is not just a sport, there have been many studies on the therapy that surfing provides, it relieves stress, provides confidence in the ocean and learning a new skill, it provides excellent exercise and is a great outlet for everyday life. San Diego where we live is a military town where thousands of families that dedicate themselves to serving our country live. They sacrifice every day to protect us, we wanted to recognize that service by giving back to them. Every summer we sponser several military children through a professional surf camp where they get safe, top level instruction in learning the joys of surfing. This program is funded exclusively through a donor who is a former career Navy Seal and local businessman and our own personal finances so that we can continue to use 100% of our donors money on clean water.
