We Are Surfing Servants

At Surfing Servants, we believe in the incredible power of serving those in need.  We love God, love Surfing, and wanted to combine these passions with our leadership skills as career public servants to make a difference in the world.  So we set out to put all of these together to make Surfing Servants!

We’re not just a charity; we are a family committed to making a difference. Our founders envisioned a place where the waves bring not just fun but also hope, creating bonds and inspiring lives. From humble beginnings, our mission has grown, united by faith and the desire to spread the love of God through our work.

Our Story - Give Where You Go

Our journey began in 2022 during a surf trip to El Salvador. We learned that the local families who prepared meals for us at our surf camp often returned home to drink contaminated water—or had to spend an entire month’s salary on filtered water.

Through our research, we discovered that 600 million children worldwide lack access to clean water, and that contaminated water contributes to the deaths of approximately 400,000 children under the age of five each year.

We also found a simple yet life-changing solution: Sawyer water filters. Originally developed for backpackers, these filters attach to a bucket or faucet and remove the bacteria that cause waterborne illness. Remarkably, each filter can last up to 10 years and costs just $35.

The impact has been immediate and meaningful, improving both health and financial stability for families. Today, we deliver 100 filters each year to communities in El Salvador. What began as a single idea has grown into an international movement: to date, we have provided more than 1,000 clean-water filters across 11 countries worldwide.

Our Mission Expands! Give Where You Live

As the success of our international clean water program grew, we felt called to give back locally as well.

As children, we were introduced to the lifelong joy of surfing by someone who took the time to teach us. Surfing is much more than a sport—it can be deeply therapeutic. It may help relieve stress, build confidence in the ocean, develop new skills, provide excellent exercise, and offer a positive outlet from the pressures of everyday life.

San Diego, our home, is home to thousands of military families who dedicate themselves to serving our country. Their sacrifices help protect our communities, and we wanted to honor that service by giving back.

Each summer, we sponsor several military children to attend a professional surf camp. There, they receive safe, high-quality instruction and experience the joy and confidence that come with learning to surf.

This program is funded entirely through the generosity of a donor—a former career Navy SEAL and local businessman—as well as our own personal contributions. Because of this support, 100% of donor contributions can continue going directly toward providing clean water to communities in need.
